The truth shines in a broken mirror
The Mask of Shadow follows Mythos into a world where truth no longer lives in words but in reflections.
When John (Mythos) discovers a manuscript whose text changes only when mirrored, the Codex Mirror awakens — an ancient Lanna Lai artefact that shows masks instead of faces. Its glyphs breathe, shift, and reveal messages only when Mythos lies.
The mirror knows something. Mythos does not: their mask is borrowed.
A new antagonist emerges, the Archivist of Shadows, a figure who can erase reflections and who recognises Mythos’s mask as stolen.
Soon Mythos encounters a reflection and a shadow performing acts they never committed — the mirror showing possible truths, not real ones.
As the Codex fractures, its break becomes the message. A child survivor recognises Mythos’s reflection rather than their face, proving that the shadow remembers even when Mythos forgets. The Archivist steals Mythos’s reflection entirely, leaving Mythos untraceable and dangerously unstable.
In the final collapse, the Codex Mirror folds into a single mirrored glyph — the seed of a future holographic system and the first sign that truth in the Mythomane universe is no longer linear but recursive.
Book 2 is the saga of a reflection that lies, a mask that isn’t original, and a truth that survives only in shadow.
Miravathra
Guiding the shadows is the mythic beast Miravathra, known as the codex moth.
Origin
Miravathra was not born from rivers or mirrors. She was born from Caelid’s voice.
Long before Mythos ever saw the Codex Mirror, Caelid — the Celtic woman who speaks in reversals — whispered a lie so perfectly that it split its own reflection. The lie folded inward, bent its language, and became a creature.
That creature was Miravathra.
Her earliest form appears in corrupted Lanna Thai script, where the river speaks backward:

Miravathra is a creature of reflected breath.
It does not speak. It echoes.
Its wings are made of mirrored script — English, Lanna Thai, French, and Punjabi — each line folding into itself, each language remembering what the speaker forgets.
