The Sofa: A Geography of Exile
The sofa appears in all versions as a symbol of exile.
It is where the author slept. Where they were watched. Where they were ignored. Where boundaries blurred and innocence was stolen.
In the French edition, the sofa is described as “une île de tissu".
In the Ukrainian version, it is “диван біля входу — на виду, але без права на голос.”
In English, it is simply “the place where I slept the most".
Different languages, same truth: the sofa is not furniture — it is a childhood in captivity.
